After all, I was interested in the story. That being said 10/10. But to be fair, Idk if I'd be up for all the grinding the game needs to allow you to kill the monsters in late game.. It's been great. Music and SFX are really good for a game this kind of style.Gameplay is decent. My only problem is the grinding for gold part (to upgrade weapons/armors/potions). Story is coherent and goes back and forth to explaining some of the characters' motives.I think if the game had less grinding and more scares, it would be much better. I actually haven't written a review in a long time and I thoroughly enjoyed most of it. I think the ending could be tweaked a bit but none the less it was good.Achievements are a pain in the♥♥♥♥♥this game if you don't know what they are/what you have to do before hand. I didn't bother with them at the end of the game because they were somewhat tedious (so achievement hunters might want to stay away from this).Overall game is 8.5/10 for me. The game moved away from its original puzzle oriented playstyle and the end of the game some maps were literally 1 monster and that's it. I thought those were turn offs.. 8/10A very well done game that combines point-and-click, RPG and horror elements.You wake up in a cabin having no memory of how you got there. Using point-and-click mechanics, you have to find your way out, when the story then starts to progress. Combat is simple enough - get the right timing on attacks to land more damage on each, using potions to recover health when needed, and later on special attacks are available. In town, you can buy new armor, weapons, potions and protective tattoos. Puzzles are simple enough in the sense that you don't really need to look for help online and the game has some pretty scary moments that are actually well done, rather than just throwing random jumpscares at the player.The story is okay - nothing special, the ending is a bit silly - and the only actual downsides it has is that the Defend command isn't useful at all and the game includes a bit of grinding that isn't really needed and just feels like a cheap way to extend gameplay time (though it isn't really too much of a problem - it's just a bit boring having to hunt/fish for money, but it's at least quick enough that you don't have to do it for hours, usually a few minutes will net you what you need).Highly recommended, with potential for a sequel, hopefully with a more intriguing story, more horror, more RPG mechanics and more exploration & puzzles.. So, the good first: fun game, creepy retro art, lots of good ideas and enemies. Some genuinely startling jump scares. 5 hours to beat it, more if you hunt down all the achievements. The story is fun too. Definately worth the few bucks their asking.But the bad: "RPG elements" is stretching it. Yes, technically they're there but they're just an excuse to make you grind so the game takes longer. Only way to upgrade your capabilities is to buy weapon and armor upgrades and tatoos by going out and grinding on a swing meter in hunting and fishing mini games. If you don't do this, you can't defeat certain enemies and you can't do extra grinding to make fights easier because the merchants simply won't sell you higher upgrade tiers of gear. The fact that this is intentional is made obvious by the fact that every major enemy has exactly the right number of hp and damge so that once you have the right gear if you hit the swing meters right, you kill them right before they kill you. All the "rpg elements" could be removed and the game would be better for it, if 2/3 as long.Also, the writing is so-so. It's not awful but there are times words are used incorrectly and one major plot hole towards the end of the game. Aside from those complaints though, it's fun and I wouldn't let those stop you from buying it.. your pants. Fish your tremors away.Abrupt ending though.9/10.. I didn't expect much from a game at this price, but I was completely taken aback at how fun this was. It's simple and not particularly difficult, but this game delivers with a fun yet tragic story, copious combat, and a general air of mystery. The kids and I spent the better part of a Saturday playing this together and had a blast.. I had a lot of fun with this game. The retro style graphics were great, and the story kept me engaged enough to want to finish this game over the course of two sittings. None of the puzzles were very difficult, and the jump scares were more so fun than frightening. Overall, I enjoyed about 90% of this experience totally. My only real gripe with the game is that the hunting/shop mechanic felt like it was put in there just to pad out the length of the game. The game is 4-5 hours long, and you spend at least an hour of that hunting things to earn gold so you can upgrade your load out. You have to do this, if you do not then you will encounter enemies that will simply one shot you. Of course, the game never ends with you dying...just like any good point and click...but you still end up wasting a ton of time hunting or fishing for gold. I get it, it is sort of a practice for combat since there is no pressure while hunting/fishing - but you could have just as easily given the player the necessary items to win through puzzle solving or because they need things like potions and are friendly to the NPCs. The game still would have been extremely enjoyable if it was only a 2-3 hour experience in old school horror gaming. So, in spite of the grindy bits this is still a really solid game. It has enough charm that I can sit there clicking on pictures of animals for a while in order to progress the combat portions of the story. Worth a purchase for sure.. Great game, like the DOS games of old. Grindy near the end but not overly so.. Dark fear is a really neat little pixel game. While I wouldn't consider it completely horror, it has very well placed and well done jump scares that are not overused and there is a nice psychological element. The twist ending is not the biggest surprise, but still relatively satisfying.Pros:- Interesting storyline- satisfying combat system- difficult puzzles that really make you think- interesting use of a hunting system- most battles are challenging in an exciting wayCons:- no sell back to the blacksmith- somewhat anti climatic final boss battle- linear storyline but too little hints on what to do next- gold is hard to come by and you can find yourself having to hunt/fish for a long period of time to make enough to properly equip yourselfOverall, I'd say this game is a neat buy, especially for the price. I would have easily paid double for this game. It's super fun, really interesting mix of genres that is well done and very enjoyable. Though it has zero replayability, apart from getting all the acheivements, it's defintely worth a play through and to be added to your collection.8.5/10
